My Disney

Welcome to Your Lightning Lane Guide.

Now Let’s Get Started with the Basics. Read these first before you head to the Guide.

1. Lightning Lanes Basics...

With the Lightning Lanes passes you can skip the standby line for select attractions at Disney World. You can purchase a Lightning Lane Multi Pass or a Lightning Lane Single Pass.

The price is a daily fee per park and per person. The cost starts at $15 and can go up to $39. There is a multiple park option if you have a park hopper ticket. Guest can purchase on the My Disney Experience App.

The price may vary depending on factors such as the time of year, the park’s attendance levels, and the park you are visiting.

Disney Genie Service

What is Disney Genie Service? –This is a free Service that helps personalize your park day itinerary. It has 2 features the My Day feature lets you see your booked theme park plans for the day in one place and the Tip Board. Plus, you can get personalized recommendations customized to your preferences.

The Tip Board

This is a section in my Disney Experience App lists all the wait time for all the rides. You can now filter to show what rides that have the Lightning Lane option. You can also mobile order from the Tip Board and join walk up list for table service.

Lightning Lanes

You get Lightning Lanes when you purchase a Lightning Lane Multi Pass or a Lightning Lane Single Pass. You can modify and cancel these throughout the day without any penalties.

The Lightning Lane provides a dedicated entrance for certain attractions. Instead of waiting in the standard standby line, you can use the Lightning Lane to experience a shorter queue, potentially reducing your wait time for popular rides.

You can reserve access to Lightning Lane entrances for select attractions via the My Disney Experience app.

See Section 4 for a list of all Lighting Lanes Available per park.

Lightning Lane Multi Pass

This is what is replaced Genie+ and it is the new service you can choose to purchase to skip the long lines at the parks by using Lightning Lanes.

When you purchase the Multi Pass you can prebook 3 Lightning Lanes before you get to the park. You will be given the option to select the attraction and the return time to head to the attraction.

Important Note: The Multi Pass has attractions in 2 Tiers. More info below.

Lightning Lane Single Pass

These are single lightning lanes for the most in-demand attractions in the park. These are purchased a la carte and you don’t need to purchase the Multi Pass to purchase these single passes. These attractions are not included in the Multi Pass, you can also prebook these. There is a limit of 2 per day.

Resort Guests can prebook 7 Days before their first day at the parks and all other guests can book 3 days in advance.

2- How Multi Pass & Single Pass Work

Step 1.

Purchase and

Pre-Book

Log in to the My Disney Experience App and Purchase the Lightning Lane Multi Pass. When You Purchase your Multi Pass you get to select 3 attractions in one park. You select 1 attraction from Tier 1 and 2 attractions from Tier 2, or you can select all your attractions from Tier 2. (See Below for more details on Tiers)

When you purchase the Single Pass you can prebook up to 2 attractions per day.

Step 2

How and When to Pre-Book

Here is when you can Pre Book

  • For Disney Resort Guests- you can start booking 7 Days in advance from your check in day, not your first day at the parks. You can pre-book for your entire trip for up to 14 days.
  • Non- Disney Resort Guest (everyone else)- 3 days in advance and this is 3 days from your first park day.

This gives Disney resorts guests a bigger benefit.

Important Note: You can start booking at 7am Eastern

Step 3

How to Book More Lightning Lanes

Once you scan into your first Multi Pass Ride you can book another Lightning Lane and it can be from any of the tiers as long as there is still availability for it. You can continue to select lighting lanes one at a time until the park closes (subject to availability).

If you are park hopping you can choose a Lighting Lane in a different park, after you scan in to your first pre-booked lighting lane.

Kids under 3 do not need Lightning Lanes. Availability may be limited, and it operates on a first-come, first-served basis.

Pricing

The price starts at $15/person per park and can go up to $39 per person per park, and varies depending on the park you’re visiting and the demand for that day. For example, Magic Kingdom will cost more than Animal Kingdom.

3. Lightning Lanes by Park (by Tiers)....

Here is a list of all the lightning lanes available by park. Animal Kingdom doesn’t have any tiers. The following rides are currently closed: Test Track. Lightning Lanes that are selling out the fastest: Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Frozen Ever After, Slinky Dog Dash, Na’vi River Journey

How to Scan Into a Lightning Lane:

Each individual that has a ticket and a lightning lane booked has to scan into the lightning lane booked for entry.  There are various options to scan in:

You will tap your band, phone or ticket on the touchpoint. The touchpoint should turn green and the cast member will let you through. Some rides have 2 touchpoints like it’s a Small World.

Once you are scanned in you will usually wait 5-10 minutes (or less) before you board the attraction.

Scanning to the Lightning Lanes is the same way you scanned in to get inside the parks.

If you are only planning on going to the parks one time, I wouldn’t splurge on the magic bands instead link your tickets to your phone or smart watch.

4. Lightning Lane Single Pass

You can also purchase these from the Tip Board on the My Disney Experience App. All guests can purchase Lightning Lanes Single Pass individually without Multi Pass

Great News!! You can now modify Single Passes!!

These are limited to 2 per person, per day.

Each Lightning Lane Single Pass selection comes with an extra cost, and the pricing can vary based on factors such as the popularity for that specific day.

5. How to Edit/Modify Lightning Lanes....

How to Change, Cancel or Modify Your Lightning Lanes

How to Change, Cancel or Modify Your Lightning Lanes

Why would you want to modify your lightning lanes you ask? Here are a few reasons: It gives you a lot of flexibility to change your lightning lanes if you are running late, or if you see a sooner return time than what you already had, or you want to switch it for an entirely different attraction, and last but not least your kiddo is just over rides and you need a break you can switch it so it doesn’t count towards you using that lightning lane.

6. Disney Pro Tips ....

7. Lightning Lane Strategy and What to Book First....

Which Lightning Lanes Should I Book First (this is based on which lightning lanes usually sell out first). Here is the list of Lightning Lanes that are selling out first this week: Toy Story Mania, Slinky Dog Dash, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.

The biggest tip I can give you is to pre book your lightning lanes as early as possible, because there will be more Lightning Lanes available earlier than later. So once you scan in to your first prebooked Lightning Lane you will have more options available for your next selection.

Here is an Example Magic Kingdom:

Option 1– Jungle Cruise 9:30am

Space Mountain at 11am

Peter Pan’s Flight at 12pm

Option 2: Jungle Cruise 11:30am

Space Mountain: 1:30pm

Peter Pan’s Flight: 3:00pm

For Option 1- all your Lightning Lanes are really early so once you check in to your 9:3o am Lightning Lane the availability for more Lightning Lanes will be higher than if you were to go with Option 2. As the day goes by the Lightning Lanes begin to sell out. So it’s extremely important that your first 3 pre-booked Lightning Lanes are as early as possible.

3 Hacks That Will Maximize Your Lighting Lanes

1.On the day of your visit you can start modifying your Lightning Lanes at 7am. -This is important because if you have a later time for a Lightning Lane, you can modify it to an earlier time which will then allow you to book more Lightning Lanes. Also, if you didn’t like your original Lightning Lane selection there could potentially be more availability on the day of your visit,

2. You can still stack Lightning Lanes. As soon as you scan in to your Lightning Lanes select another Lightning Lane and continue doing this throughout the day.

3. You have 3 hours to redeem your Lightning Lanes after they expire (FYI- this could be a glitch in the app so I don’t necessarily always recommend  it, but thought I should mention it).

4. If you are going to multiple parks book your Multi Pass in this park order: Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, EPCOT and then Animal Kingdom. Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios are the busiest parks.

Below is what to book first (these are updated every week) :

Magic Kingdom

Tier 1

Tier 2

Animal Kingdom

EPCOT

Tier 1

Hollywood Studios

Tier 1

Tier 2

8. New Photo Pass Feature with Lightning Lanes

When you purchase Lightning Lanes you will also receive downloads of select PhotoPass attractions photos, that were taken in the park on the day of your purchase. Any ride that has a PhotoPass option you will get this picture without the purchase of PhotoPass just by purchasing Lightning Lanes. Please note, this purchase does not include downloads of photos captured by photographers at Walt Disney World Resort
